students & parents
Rosemarie Ryan & Fidelma Healy Eames

Two free talks for Leaving Cert studentsand their parents will be held in the Meyrick Hotel,Eyre Square on Thurs Jan. 21st and the Ramada Hotel in Oranmore on Mon., Jan 25th respectively. The subject of the talk will be ‘How to Approach the CAO process: Course & Career Choices’. Both talks commence at 8pm.

Speaking at the event will be Rosemarie Ryan, Careers & Acadmic Advisor & Dr. Fidelma Healy Eames, Study & Learning specialist.

This aim of this event is to better inform Leaving Cert / Senior Cycle students and their parents when completing the CAO form for College, a task which has to be done by the end of January.

According to Fidelma Healy Eames  ‘From working with this age group, I know how difficult it is for many students to know what course/direction/ career they wish to pursue at 17 or 18 years of age. And yet, when they do, they are so much more motivated to study and learn. This is the great dilemma parents and their students face with the current system. She added ‘It is a source of real concern for parents as they know that poor decisions can lead to drop-out in College and/or unhappiness with career direction whereas sound decisions can make for an easier life for their youngsters into the future.

According to Rosemarie Ryan, a careers advisor for 18 years  ‘the evening will assist in informing this important decision-making process for Senior cycle students and their parents’.
