Claregalway is set to benefit from the Smarter Travel Area Bid currently being prepared by Galway County Council and Galway City Council with the potential for significant investment to deliver and improve infrastructure in the village to promote walking, cycling and the use of public transport.
The Bid being prepared by the Councils for the Department of Transport’s National Competition for Smarter Travel Areas relates to the Galway Metropolitan Smarter Travel Area and includes proposals for improvements to Bearna, Claregalway, Galway City and Oranmore.  The Bid, if successful, will deliver real benefits for Claregalway with specific funding being provided by the Department of Transport to promote walking, cycling and public transport facilities in the village.  The Bid will incorporate a range of proposals for Claregalway including the development of a footpath and cycle lane linking the village and the Corporate Park on the NI8.

Galway County Council is inviting community groups, businesses, residents and everyone with an interest in promoting smarter travel in the local community to submit their proposals, comments and suggestions to the Smarter Travel Office, Galway County Council, Roads and Transportation Unit, ras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway or by email to [email protected].  The Bid is to be submitted to the Department of Transport by the 30th April with a decision expected by July 2010.
