On Sunday the 17th April the Claregalway Cub Scouts met with 11 other groups from around Galway city and county to participate in a seashore explorers hike on Flaggy Shore in Co Clare. On the day there were experts from the Marine Institute and we had access to a research lab thanks to NUIG.

The cubs learned about life in the sea, both ancient and modern. They took samples of sea water to test in the lab. They also got a chance to learn about the birds that live in the local area. All this while hiking around Loch Muirí and across the beautiful limestone shore that overlooks Galway bay.

Earlier in the month we visited the Galway Firestation, where the cubs were allowed to sit in a fire truck, got to use one of the water hoses and enjoyed a talk on fire safety.
