The Saw Doctors this week launched their campaign for a Galway Christmas No.1 with their version of Petula Clark’s 1960s hit ‘Downtown”.

The song, which has already proved a big hit online, features a cameo from 79 year old Clark in the pop video for the song, which was filmed by Eugene O’Connor on the streets of Galway and in  Paris last month.

“Petula wanted to be involved and we got her into a London studio for two hours on a stopover between Los Angeles and Geneva, where she now lives,” explained guitarist Leo Moran.

The single will be released this Friday 16th December via iTunes, Amazon and the other digital platforms at a cost of 99 cent.

Shamtown Records are also releasing 1,000 copies of a limited edition physical CD, which will be on sale from Zhivago and HMV in Shop Street, also at a cost of 99 cent.

The Saw Doctors face stiff competition in their efforts to make the Irish Christmas No.1, which will be announced on Friday 23rd December.

The X Factor winners, Little Mix, are currently favourite for the title with their version of the Damien Rice song ‘Cannonball’.
