The wonderful new facility, Lackagh playground was officially opened by Lackagh Parish Priest Fr Des Walsh who cut the ribbon on Sunday last. Hundreds of people gathered and walked from Lackagh Parish Church to the playground. Speaking at the opening, Chairman of Cairde Mór, John Morrin, welcomed everyone and paid tribute to Fr Walsh who initiated the idea of a playground facility for the area. He paid special thanks to Turloughmore Hurling Club who donated the site for the playground and added that after the site was found it was down to the hard graft of fundraising.

He added that Cairde Mór were indebted to Galway Rural Development, the local community, the support received from Galway County Council, represented by Councillor Jarlath McDonagh. St Jarlath’s Credit Union Ltd, represented by CEO Mick Culkin and local representative Elaine Whelan, and Flynn’s of Lackagh, and in particular the support and co-operation of Flynn’s SuperValu, represented by Managing Director Julien Flynn. Sincere gratitude was expressed by Cairde Mór to the very many generous sponsors.
