Pupils in Carnmore NS have been have been enjoying great reading success following a €5000 investment in a special literacy programme called ‘Literacy Lift Off’. The substantial investment in specially graded PM+ readers which was made just a few months ago is already reaping rewards.

The class based programme which aims to increase each child’s competency in reading and writing sees a team of four teachers spend one hour daily with the junior classes over six weeks. During the hour the pupils spend time at different activity stations including several reading stations, a letters, words, phonics and sounds station and another on writing.

The school could not have introduced this worthwhile programme without the support of the Parents’ Association, teachers, parents and local businesses. The school is grateful to all who contributed their time and ‘hard-earned’ money to this worthy cause.
