One of Galway’s best known travel agencies has closed its doors after more than thirty years in operation. 1-Stop Travel at Eyre Square in the city ceased trading at 9am yesterday with the loss of six jobs.

The travel shop was owned and managed by husband and wife Colm and Caryl McDonagh. Colm has been in the travel business since 1981 and his first shop was Colm McDonagh travel in Woodquay. Below is statement of closure:

1-Stop Travel regret to inform you that we have voluntarily ceased trading effective 9am Friday 25th of September. We have after much soul-searching and some very difficult years taken this decision due mainly to the residuals of what has been a very challenging trading climate during the recent very difficult recession, and the seemingly unstoppable march of the internet.

All bookings currently being dealt with in our office will be honoured and a member of staff will be in contact with each and every customer in due course.

As this process will take some time with those travelling on the closest departure dates being contacted first, we would ask for your patience please while we endeavour to get to everybody as quickly as possible.

You may have concerns about wishing to pay your deposit, part-payment or holiday balance. Again, we would ask that you be patient and a member of our staff will be in contact with you regarding these payments as soon as possible.

Colm, Caryl, Denise, Annette, Lisa and Eliza wish to thank most sincerely all of our loyal customers and friends for all your kind business and great support over the years. We are truly sorry that we had to take this decision to close, but it was simply no longer financially viable to continue.

We wish you all every health and happiness.

Thank you once again for all your great support.

NB: While you await a call from our office in the event that you require clarification on anything to do with your trip, can you please contact the Commission for Aviation Regulation on 01 6611 700 or refer to their website for further details regarding the closure of 1-Stop Travel.

Thank you,
Colm McDonagh
