Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South, Seán Kyne has today welcomed confirmation that thirty schools across Galway are to receive new school buildings as part of the Five Year Schools Building Programme 2016–21.

The Programme is being announced today by Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan TD and sets out the schools to receive new classroom and other facilities.

For the first half of the Programme’s lifespan funding is being invested in Galway to provide new facilities for seven schools in 2016, four in 2017 and eight in 2018. The timeline for the remaining schools on the Programme will be finalised around the mid-term review of the Programme.

Commented Deputy Kyne: “This Programme represents substantial investment in education facilities for children across Galway.”

“Many of the schools included in the earlier years of the multi-annual plan are at advanced stages of planning and design with some, such as Scoil Naisiunta Bhride in Lackage, having already obtained planning permission.”

“The schools included in the latter half of the Programme, such as Scoil Mhuire in Moycullen and St Annin’s in Rosscahill, can now begin work on design and obtaining planning for the new buildings and facilities which will benefit communities across Galway.”
