Operated by ‘Age and Opportunity’ in partnership with Sport Ireland, the ‘Go For Life Scheme’ provides grants to community organisations to improve the health and well-being of older people.
Commented Minister Kyne: “My colleague, Minister for Sport Brendan Griffin has confirmed to me that 87 community organisations from all across Galway City and County are receiving grants to help provide opportunities for older people to take part in physical activity and sports.
“The organisations benefiting include a variety of sports clubs, resource centres, Irish Countrywomen Association branches, active retirement associations and nursing homes.
“As Minister of State for Community Development I know that the organisations receiving funding are at the heart of communities across Galway and very well placed to help senior citizens avail of the benefits of being more active.”
