€71,000 allocated to support the development of the Claregalway and District Day Care Centre for Older People

Seán Kyne, Government Chief Whip, Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South has allocated €71,000 for the new Claregalway and District Day Care Centre.

Commented Minister Kyne: “I am delighted to be able to allocate funding of €71,200 for the new day care centre in Claregalway which is under construction. The Centre will provide services for older people from Claregalway and the surrounding areas and will accompany the sheltered homes on the same campus.

“This funding, which is in keeping with my Department’s Action Plan for the Irish Language 2018 – 2022, complements the recent allocation of €350,000 in Government funding for the project which was confirmed last month by my colleague, Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Jim Daly TD. The project is also being supported with funding from Western Alzheimer’s and the over €200,000 raised by the local community.

“It is estimated that An Ghaeilge is the first language of up to 30% of the people who will avail of the services at the Centre, which, along with a number of other language initiatives, has enabled me to allocate this funding to help complete this important facility.

“Special thanks is due to the Cormican Family for their donation of land which has greatly supported this project for the benefit of local senior citizens.”
