A very successful and enjoyable medal presentation evening was held on Sunday 21st November in Claregalway Centre.  Medals were presented to panels from U10 up to U14 in both the Juvenille and Ladies Section of the Club and there was a significant amount of silverware on display.  The two clubs have enjoyed tremendous success this year which was a result of a huge amount of hard work from Managers, Mentors, Players and the many parents who have suppported the Club throughout the year.  Michael Meehan was surprise guest of honour to present medals to the Juvenille section of the Club and the U14 Ladies received their medals from Geraldine Giles to mark their All Ireland Final Feile win earlier this year.  It was a great honour for the Club to have Geraldine present the medals and she was presented with Flowers from Anna Goldrick, U14 Ladies Captain and a framed photograph commerating her attendance at the Clubs forty year celebrations in 2008 was presented to her by Mary Conlon Club Secretary.

Junior A’s: A well-taken goal by Kenny Hansberry after he collected a fine delivery from Anthony Monaghan 10 minutes into the second half drove Claregalway into a 6 point lead and set them up for their win over Caltra in the semi-final of the Car Parts Warehouse North Board League played at Menlough on Sunday last. The score was 2-12 to 0-7. They now meet Mountbellew in the final. It was an entertaining and fast moving game with Claregalway combining well at pace throughout the field and there was a lot to admire about many of their scores. A sparkling start with a point by Peter Divilly on three minutes followed by a brace by Eoghan Commins, one from a free, and a point by Michael Noonan under pressure from the right gave Claregalway a lead of 0-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Michael Noonan was then fouled and Eoghan Commins pointed the free. Anthony Monaghan sent over a soaring point from the right and another from a pass by Declan O’Brien who gave a man of the match display at mid-field throughout. Caltra responded with 2 points late in the half and the score at the break was 0-7 to 0-3. Caltra re-started with a number of good runs through the middle and Robert Moran had to save brilliantly to deny them a goal just before Kenny’s goal at the other end. Anthony Monaghan pointed again and Sean Moran sent over a lovely point almost from the end line on the left. But Caltra continued to contest every ball and after a few breaks through the Claregalway defence, they scored 2 points and Robert Moran saved a pile driver at the butt of his right-hand post. Keith McDermott and Gerry Moran cleared their lines impressively during this spell of pressure. Two more frees converted by Eoghan Commins resulted in a lead of 1-11 to 0-7 mid-way in the half. Sub Gary Hurney heralded his presence in the remaining minutes by rattling in 1-1. The half-back line of Hubert Newall, Conor Costello and Michael Evans in particular gave another good display.

Team: Robert Moran, Gerry Moran, Keith McDermott, Diarmuid Gavin, Hubert Newall, Conor Costello, Michael Evans, Declan O’Brien, Eoghan Commins (0-1,4 frees) Peter Divilly (0-1),  Anthony Monaghan (0-3), Sean Moran (0-1), Gerry Cheevers, Kenny Hansberry (1-0), Michael Noonan (0-1). Subs. used: Gary Hurney (1-1), Dara Glynn.

Note: A serious injury to Caltra player Damien Cunniffe in the second half resulted in a 10 minute stoppage to facilitate assistance for removal and treatment. We convey our very best wishes to Damien for a speedy recovery.
