Carnmore v Annaghdown

18th of September 2014
Carnmore’s U15 team travelled to Annaghdown on Thursday 18th of September for the second game of the championship. Carnmore were undoubtedly the stronger team in this contest and had a comfortable lead at half time. In the second half, Annaghdown appeared better able to withstand the strong opposition. A goal by Annaghdown with ten minutes to go, ended Carnmore’s chances of a win. The game finished in a draw.

Carnmore v Sylane

Monday 22nd of September
Carnmore took a very comfortable win over Sylane, in a challenge match, hosted by Carnmore.

Carnmore v Gort

Wednesday 24th of September 2014
Wednesday night last saw Carnmore’s U15 top their group in the U15 Championship to earn their place in the semi-final. An able Gort side, although still in the game at half-time, did not do enough in the second half to keep The Reds quiet. Final Score Carnmore 6–11, Gort 1–4. Best of Luck in the semi-final.

U10

St Mary’s College Festival of Hurling Tournament
U10s lose semi-final in extra time
Our U10 team took part in the annual St Mary’s College Festival of Hurling Tournament held in St Mary’s last Saturday. This highly competitive annual event brings together nine and ten year old hurlers from around Galway city. Indeed Carnmore have had great success in winning the tournament in 2012 and 2013. The standard of hurling on view was excellent again this year and the large crowds were treated to some great matches. In our first match we were beaten by Castlegar but we atoned for that disappointing start in our next game with an excellent three point win over Moycullen where the boys played some wonderful hurling.

Riain Concannon, Sean McHugh , Luc O’Connor and Mark Collins scored some great points. Our final group game saw us take on Rahoon-Newcastle with the winner progressing to the semi final. We got off to a great start with two goals from Sean McHugh and Luc O’Connor, however Rahoon-Newcastle rallied and it took some great defensive work from Mark Collins, Liam Murray and goalkeeper Barry Higgins to keep them at bay. A second half goal from Riain Concannon sent us through to the semi-final against Liam Mellowes.

The semi final was a great match with both sides giving it their all. Goals from Daniel Fenton, Sean McHugh and David Tarmey left us level with Mellowes at full time on a scoreline of 3–3 a piece. Extra time was needed and with two minutes left, Liam Mellowes scored the all important goal that sent them through to the final. Our club, their coaches and the lads’ parents can be very proud of the great display of our U10 hurlers.

U11
The current series of U11 challenge matches are progressing, with the team continuing with their current good form. The team’s most recent match was on Friday 12th of September, Carnmore v Ballindereen in Ballindereen. Carnmore got off to a great start, built up a great lead in the first half, and maintained this lead for the remainder of the game. Final score Carnmore 6–7, Ballindereen 1–4. Well done to all involved.

U12
Carnmore’s U12s played a challenge match against Killimor at home on Friday night last, 19th of September. Carnmore took advantage of the wind in the first half and had the upper hand at half time. Against a strong breeze and in difficult conditions, Carnmore held their lead throughout the second half. Some excellent individual dis-plays of hurling skills, coupled with good teamwork gave Carnmore the win they de-served. Final score Carnmore 4–4, Killimor 0–4.
