Claregalway Festival of Drama was officially launched last week to a large attendance in the Claregalway Hotel.
Festival Director Seamus McNulty said that this is the 30th year of the festival, founded in 1982. Owing to the outbreak of Foot & Mouth, they had to cancel one festival during that period, which makes this the 30th Festival as well as the 30th year. He added that the three main ingredients that made the festival so successful were the sponsors, to whom the organising committee are indebted, the wonderful audience, and the groups that consistently want Claregalway Festival to be part of the festival circuit. He added that this year there are nine new productions to Claregalway, a clear vote of support in the festival. Among the five participating groups this year, three have already been All Ireland winners in previous years.
Claregalway Festival of Drama will run from March 16th–23rd in Claregalway Community Centre. Doors open at 7pm and performances start at 8pm. Tickets: €10 or €60 for a season ticket. This year the adjudicator is Gerry Lombard from Gorey.
Thursday March 15th local drama group, Compántas Lir and thieir production of The Curious Savage by John Patrick (Confined) will open the festival.
