Claregalway’s 23rd Annual Agricultural Show is fast approaching. It will take place on Sunday, August 18th in Duffy Equestrian Centre, Rockwood. This has been the venue for the show for a long number of years and is probably the most suitable venue with all its facilities in Claregalway. The committee is indebted to the Duffy Family for the use of their grounds and facilities.

The Race Night fundraiser has taken place already and some much needed funds were raised to help run this year’s show. Last year the weather wasn’t very kind to us for the show but we are very optimistic and expecting good weather this year.

The schedule has now being printed and has been distributed by post. It is also available on our website www.claregalwayagriculturalshow.ie to download. We have over 200 classes at the show again this year. Why not browse through the schedule and select what you would like to enter? There is a huge selection to choose from with classes ranging from Horses, Ponies, Donkeys, Sheep, Cattle, Dogs, Fowl and Pets in the outdoor sections to Crafts, Home Produce, Baking, Flowers, Art, Photography, Jam and a large Junior Section indoors.

Every year the show committee introduces something new to the show and this year we have introduced Fancy Dress Classes. There is two categories: age 3–6 years and age 7–12 years. This competition will take place after the Bonny Baby classes. These competitions are always of great interest to spectators and entrants alike. They are always very enjoyable and very well supported.

The grand finale of the day is the Donkey Derby. This has gotten bigger and more competitive over the years. The prize money is €100 for first past the post. If you want to win that coveted prize, it’s time to get your donkey, and yourself, in training for the race.

The launch of this year’s show schedule, with details of the 23rd Annual Claregalway Agricultural Show will take place on Friday July 26th in the Arches Hotel.
