More and more people across Ireland have made the decision to Grow It Yourself. Whether it is to provide tastier vegetables for their families, cut out some of the chemicals in their food, save money or just feel a sense of achievement, many people are returning to their gardens and allotments to get growing. With the new growing season almost upon us, it is time to think about how to get the most from your plot this year.

One of the best ways to do this is to join with friends and neighbours in your own community to share ideas and skills, experience and enthusiasm. All across Ireland growers at every level come together through their local GIY groups to help each other out. They do so through monthly get-togethers which include expert talks, garden visits, and a whole lot of chat! GIY local group events are free and open to all.

We already have a number of GIY groups across Galway—why not come along and see how you can benefit. To find out more about upcoming events in your local group, visit An SpidealClaregalwayOranmore, Tuam, Ballinasloe.

We are currently supporting the development of new groups across County Galway. The big news is that we will shortly be relaunching the Galway City group. We are also looking out for people in Clifden, Headford, Oughterard, Moycullen, Maam Cross, Gort, Loughrea, Portumna, Athenry, Mountbellew, Williamstown, Glenamaddy and The Aran Islands, but a new group can be set up anywhere that there are a handful of people with a shared interest in growing more of their own food. If you wouldlike to see a GIY group set up in your own area, then please contact:
