€350k for Claregalway & District Day Care Centre!
THE planned expansion of the Claregalway and District Day Care Centre is to benefit from a capital allocation of €350,000 towards the cost of its new purpose-built day care facility and independent living units.
Construction is currently underway on a site in the village, which was generously donated by local farmer, Mattie Cormican and his family.
The 14 new independent living units will enable older people to continue living in their own community for longer, with some support being provided.
Galway West Deputy Noel Grealish has welcomed the news which follows a meeting with Minister of State with responsibility for Older People, Jim Daly, last week.
The Day Care Centre has been operating since 2012 and is funded primarily through their ‘ Never Too Old’ Charity Shop which is manned by volunteers in the village.
“It provides an excellent service for 60 adults from the area per week, and the new purpose-built facility will cater for up to 125 adults per week, offering important social interaction as well as educational and health services,” said the Galway West TD.
