The younger members of the association, the Beavers, had a very successful nature hike before Easter. The Gold Arrow group from Cubs are planning a Beaver/Cub day out for sometime in June. Beavers and Cubs from 5th. Corofin and 1st Galway, as well as Cubs from Oranmore joined our Beavers and Cubs for a puppet show at the Centre during a night off in the Drama Festival. 24 Cubs from Claregalway joined up with 74 Cubs from Oranmore, Craughwell and Corofin for an overnight in the Dr. Duggan Hall in Corofin on the 24th. April. There were games, a fashion show, a disco and very little sleep! Many thanks to Hugh Farrell, who helped out, because of the unavailability of some leaders.
Oranmore hosted a hike on Saturday May 2nd. 22 Cubs and 3 Leaders from Claregalway took part. They walked from the Community Centre in Oranmore to Renvyle Park, answering questions along the route. At Renvyle, there was a barbecue followed by a soccer game and the day concluded with sweets for all.
Claregalway are planning a Cub Fun Day for Claregalway during May. We hope to have Cubs from the other 5 packs in the District for an afternoon of Fun and Games at the local Leisure Centre and GAA grounds.
The Scouts had a night hike out from Galway, following a meal at Supermacs, before Easter and then overnighted in the Centre.
The newest section, the Ventures, are busy preparing for a summer trip to Austria.
A new training programme for Leaders has been introduced by the association. The following have completed Level 1 Gerry Mooney, Eileen Lynch, Jean Corrigan, Nora Anne Maloney, Bernie Small, Mary McNulty, Colette Conneely and Patricia Carton.
Level 2, First Aid, is planned for mid May and will be open to anyone in the area wishing to take part. It will be an 8 week course on Tuesday nights from 8:30pm–10pm. Anyone interestd can give their names to either Mary Duggan or Patricia Carton.
