Realtaí Brownie Pack begins its 5th year in Guiding this September with a Coffee Evening in aid of the Galway Hospice. We were delighted that with the generosity of local business and parents our evening raised € 1550. Here you see the Brownies passing the cheque to Caroline who is a nurse in the hospice.
Now as we start our 5th year and the Irish Girl Guides centenary year we look back at what was a busy year for the Brownie Guide Pack with many visitors, outings and celebrations. One of the highlights was when one of our top Irish wheelchair athletes came to visit the pack. Rena McCarron-Rooney who represents Ireland at international wheelchair table tennis events and is ranked 11th in the world in her class came to visit the pack. She encouraged the Brownies to ask questions regarding sport and also regarding disability. Rena remarked on the calibre of questions the girls provided, they on the other hand were fascinated by the amount of on the amount of silverware and novelties which Rena has collected while representing her country. Rena finished off by encouraging the girls to try their best regardless of their abilities. We hope to learn from her.
Another highlight is our annual awards evening which this year was held later than normal. The overall Brownie of the year for 2009 was Chloe Hannon who was presented with the Ann Walton Cup by Hilda Murray (mother of the previous winner, Megan).
So we start 2010-2011 looking forward to centenary celebrations, as well as local events. Yours in Guiding The Owls.
