A Local Playground Project:

Currently there is a fundraising campaign underway to raise funds to build a local playground.  A group of local residents got together to discuss the lack of facilities available for the increasing population of children in Lackagh and the surrounding areas. ‘The Playground Committee’ (Cairde Mór Ltd.) was subsequently established to address this issue.

The Turloughmore Hurling Club, have made a magnificent gesture in making a site available within their grounds for the proposed playground and we commend the club hugely for this.

The committee hopes to secure up to 75% funding through Galway Rural Development, however, we will need to raise approximately a further €40,000. This may seem like a massive endeavor, but if the community unites in support of this playground, then our children will soon be able to enjoy a SAFE, FUN, LOCAL AMENITY.   The goal of this campaign is to avoid dragging out fundraising events and begin construction of the playground as soon as possible, and make this dream a reality for our children.

We are asking every household in the in the (proposed) Playground catchment area to make a voluntary donation – these can be anonymous or not.  If possible we are suggesting that each household donate between 50 –100 euro, but all donations will be gratefully received.

We are asking local businesses to also make a voluntary donation of their own discretion.  All sponsors of this much needed facility will receive accreditation through the website ad, and also on a plaque to be unveiled at the playground.

We are conscious that we are in the middle of a recession, yet we believe in the long run this facility on our doorstep could be a cost savings for all of us.  We have set up collection drop off boxes in a number of local businesses:

  • Flynn’s Supervalu, Lackagh
  • Hughes Supervalu, Claregalway
  • Raftery’s Centra, Claregalway
  • Londis Foodmarket, Knockdoe
  • Glynn’s Centra, Carnmore for your convenience and they will remain in place for the month of June.

Donation envelopes can also be given directly to a playground committee member during the church collection in Lackagh Church Sat June 25th and Sun June 26th.  Committee members will also be available in Flynn’s Supervalu on Fri July 15th and Sat July 16th.

We hope that you are as excited as we are at the prospect of creating a wonderful safe place for all of the community to get together both now and for future generations!

We are always eager to have new members join our committee and all feedback is welcomed.

Best Regards,

Playground Committee – (Cairde Mór Ltd.)
