THE Claregalway/Lackagh U14 Girls Olympic Handball team topped a terrific performance for teams and individuals from the parish, when they won their Community Games All-Ireland Final in a nail biting finish against Kerry’s Firies in Athlone last Sunday.

Claregalway/Lackagh were 2-1 up with thirty seconds on the clock, but Firies snatched a late goal to bring All-Ireland Final to extra time.  The Kerry girls went ahead in extra time but Claregalway/Lackagh equalised with two seconds on the clock to bring the game to penalties before winning 3-2 on a shootout.

Claregalway/Lackagh team: Rebecca Hansberry, Michelle Coyle, Natasha Hynes, Catherine Walsh, Deirdre Keane, Catriona Moran, Stephanie O’Connell, Shannon Cullen, Roisin Conlan.

There was success also for Mark O’Connor in winning Community Games Gold in Judo Boys Weight Under 30kg.

The Claregalway/Lackagh U12 Girls socccer team won All-Ireland bronze in AIT Athlone last Sunday afternoon coming out winning 3-1 in a penalty shootout against Roscrea, after the game finished scoreless despite extra time.
