The Helen Hughes Gilligan Memorial Dance will take place in the Clayton Hotel in Galway this Saturday April 17th, with the legendary Jimmy Buckley and his band.

All proceeds will go towards funding equipment for Home Sharing Contract families through Home Share Galway which is a partnership between Brothers of Charity Galway and Ability West.

Helen from Kilcahill, Claregalway, passed away on April 7th 2014, following a short illness. She was an amazing and inspirational lady, who together with her husband Eddie, pioneered the development of Contract Family placements in County Galway.

This is essentially a family based short break/respite scheme which involves an ordinary family in the community taking a child/young person or adult with an intellectual disability into their home for short breaks and caring for that person as a member of their family.

The scheme currently has over 22 Contract Families who offer breaks to 63 people and their families. More host families are due to come on board shortly.

The guest get respite care in a home environment, where they are involved in the family’s routines. Their own families get a chance to have a break, knowing that their loved one is being cared for in a home like their own.

Tickets for the Helen Hughes Gilligan Memorial with Jimmy Buckley, tomorrow night, Saturday at 9.30pm and will cost €20 per person and can be purchased by contacting Kieran Keon on 087 9277172 or Audrey Reilly on 091 540900.
