There was huge local disappointment that some people in society would destroy great work which was carried out by local people with a mindless act of vandalism which was carried out in an area beside Lackagh cemetery.
Local people went to great expense and trouble to enhance an area of improvement works by Galway County Council where soil and grass had already enhanced the area and local people had purchased large flower boxes and planted flowers to enhance the area still further.
However in a mindless act of vandalism last week the four boxes were turned out and flowers destroyed. The act was carried out during the night and an appeal has been issued to anyone who noticed anything unusual in the vicinity of Lackagh cemetery. If they passed through the area on the night to notify the local Gardaí or the local committee who have since put the flower boxes back in place.
