Community and voluntary groups from across the country are invited to the first plenary gathering of the Galway County Public Participation Network (PPN) this week.

The event will take place at the Claregalway Hotel tomorrow night Thursday May 26th at 6.30pm.

Groups can avail of the chance to meet with representatives from all types of services that would be relevant to community and voluntary life such as insurance, funding opportunities, credit unions, training. community safety, fire safety and many more organisations working on behalf of communities throughout the county.

Over twenty information stands will be in place at the event, where guest speakers will include Seamus Boland from Irish Rural Link; Noel Grealish TD and the Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Cllr Peter Roche.

“By bringing community groups together they can not only learn about what help and services are available for them but they can also learn from each other and find out what similar groups are doing,” said Vincent Lyons, Chairperson of the PPN Secretariat.

The Public Participation Network (PPN) is a collection of over 600 community and voluntary groups from all over Co Galway. Its main purpose is to act on behalf of communities and provide input into local policies and plans. PPNs were set up under the Local Government act Reform 2014 and replaced the previous Community & Voluntary Fora.

Everyone is welcome on the night where refreshments will be served. Anyone hoping to attend is asked to contact Rita at [email protected] or phone 087 4383323.
