Claregalway Cookery School has been run by Susie O’Connor since 1999.

O’Connor trained at Ballymaloe Cookery School in Shanagarry, Co. Cork, where she worked as an instructor for eight years. She now runs evening cookery classes for adults and also children’s cookery classes throughout the summer and during school breaks.

People go to Claregalway Cookery School to learn how to cook good food and meet others with an interest in cooking. The atmosphere is relaxed and all levels of experience are catered for.  All ingredients and recipes are supplied and all of the students get to taste the fruit of their efforts.

O’Connor has a large library or recipes from many different countries which are used for the classes.  At the end of a class the students can choose the main dish they would like to cook for the next class.  Options for dishes can include: Many ethnic dishes such as: Indian, Thai, Chinese; healthy options such as low fat or low GI recipes, gluten free recipes, vegetarian dishes, coeliac friendly dishes; bread, scone, and cake baking; seafood only classes for those who like fish but are afraid to cook it.

Classes can place a focus on topics of interest to the students including home entertainment classes to help impress your guests with that dinner party; freezer filler classes, for busy people who would like to prepare good food in advance and reheat when needed; and budget friendly recipes, ideal for students starting college who wish to cook good healthy meals on a budget.

Class size is small, eight to 10 people only, so that everybody gets individual attention. Cookery demonstrations without the hands-on-element for larger groups are also catered for.

She is now taking bookings for the adult evening cookery classes which start on the week of September 11.  Classes are scheduled for one evening per week for six weeks from 7pm to 9pm.  Classes are for both men and women, beginners to advanced are welcome.
