Knockdoemore native martin Kearney, popular owner of Kearney cycles in Terryland, Galway broke the irish record for running a marathon in the over 65 category when he successfully completed the Berlin marathon in Germany recently.

Martin, who for many years was known for his trailblazing cycling achievements, took up running some years ago and since then has run several marathons around the world. For many years his only involvement in running was as a sponsor in the popular Streets of Galway and he then started competing. For somebody who was a later starter in marathons running, breaking the Irish record was a huge achievement.

Despite the fact that Martin is now in the over 65 section, he has no intention of stopping running, but breaking records is not high on his agenda.
