Nuacht Chláir is the community-curated newsletter for Baile Chláir (Claregalway) and Cairn Mór (Carnmore), County Galway, Ireland. The newsletter is published independently, with the support of local Sponsors, and is distributed free of charge locally. It is also available online at Claregalway.info. This website is updated regularly, publicising local news and events from the community, for readers both at home and abroad.

Team

The Nuacht Chláir editorial team consists of Josette Farrell (Editor since 1996) and Brian Place (Crossword & Bridge Editor). The newsletter and website is designed by Josette’s son Emmet and the site is coded by her son Niall. This is done voluntarily as a service to the community. Josette has been actively involved in community development since moving to Claregalway almost thirty years ago.

History

Nuacht Chláir has been growing slowly over the years. The first issue (dating 1990) was printed on a single A4 sheet and delivered door to door. With the rapid expansion of the community in the years that followed however, demand for a more comprehensive newsletter was met, and currently 1,000 copies are printed each month, which are available in Hughes SuperValu, Glynn’s Centra Carnmore, Claregalway Pharmacy, Flynn’s SuperValu Turloughmore, or from Josette. The newsletter is published every month, with combined issues for January & February and July & August.
