Dr. Ronan Glynn is the eldest child of George and Mary Glynn of Lydican, Oranmore, Co., Galway, the owners of the well known ‘Glynns Fruit & Veg’ business, servicing the west of Ireland and beyond, over the last 50 years plus.
Dr. Glynn graduated in UCD in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. He then went on to qualify as a Medical Doctor in 2007, after studying at the University of Abdereen. In 2012, he completed a laboratory based PHD in Surgical Oncology and in 2015, he completed a Masters in Public Health at UCD.
Dr. Glynn is a member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care. He specialises in Public Health Medicine and Epidemiology.
He worked as a Doctor with the HSE between 2008 and 2018. In October 2018, Dr. Glynn was appointed Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Department of Health.
Dr. Glynn is married to Carla O’Brien, who is a newsreader with RTE. They reside in Dublin and have two young children.
Dr. Glynn is now the Acting Chief Medical Officer since Dr. Holohabn has stepped down due to family commitments and will now chair the Department of Health’s bi-weekly press conference.
