In 2010 Claregalway GAA Club commenced an ambitious development programme to provide improved facilities for their growing community and membership. This has progressed at great pace and the club now have two full-size pitches, with a third recently constructed as well as a community, sports and social centre on a 22-acre purchased site. Without grant aid, local sponsorship and generous contributions from members this development would not have reached its present status.
The current development phase at Knockdoemore involves developing one pitch into an all-weather natural grass/sanded surface. Installing match standard lighting and laying juvenile pitches/training area; providing a lit walkway around the perimeter of the park/pitches which will be a popular health and recreational facility for all the local community.
Although the club received Sports Council assistance to aid the development there is a substantial shortfall in funding and in order to help bridge the gap a group of committed club members took on the task of organising Strictly Dancing to aid the fundraising efforts.
In mid-November 40 local residents commenced training for the Strictly Dancing event which will take place on January 29th.
Under the watchful eye of a professional dance teacher, they are enthusiastically learning their dance steps ahead of the main event which will be held at the Claregalway Hotel.
