GALWAY representation is about to be doubled on Googlebox, the Irish version of the much-hyped UK original – as an opinionated family from Moycullen make their debut on the couch in front of the telly.
The Gibbons-Coyle family – man Eileen, dad Chris and daughters Hannah and Ciara – describe themselves as ‘very dramatic, energetic, honest, liberal and they love to laugh’, Each member has a distinct personality and there is a lot of verbal fighting to get their opinions heard!
They join the Naughtons, with dad Declan – a native of Ahascragh – at the head of the clan to add to the Galway contingent commenting on the weeks’ television on the TV3 version of the show, which goes airs every Thursday from 9.30pm.
The Gibbons/Coyles enjoy nothing more than settling in together to watch the telly – everything Friends, Modern Family, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, 23 hours in A&E – all along with their dog Buddy.
Dad Chris secretly watches the Kardashians with his girls. Hannah is a sucker for MTV while mum Eileen prefers gardening and food shows.
Hannah is a newly qualified Primary School teacher, who has just finished her PostGrad and is resource teaching the Primary School she attended herself.
Ciara, the youngest, has just finished her Undergrad in Philosophy and Phychology in NUIG and is hoping to do an MA in Psychology. She is currently working in Supermacs in Galway city.
Dad Chris works for the Department of Defence. He’s an expert on Irish celebrities, shocking his female counterparts with his knowledge. And mum Eileen teaches drama at the Blue Teapot Theatre Company and also dabbles in play-writing.
The Naughtons, meanwhile, admit to a very close father/daughters relationships. All three are partial to a bit of theatre and are happy to be centre of attention.
Dad Declan is originally from Ahascragh and is an HR Consultant. He is also a big GAA fan and a devoted Galway supporter.
Eldest daughter Sheila is in her final year at Trinity, studying Drama. And Alice, the youngest, has just finished her Leaving Cert and, while she does enjoy Drama like her dad and sister, Music and Art are where her talents lie.
Declan is a loyal soap follower but also loves political programmes. Even though he hates reality TV, the girls always end up with control of the remote and he ends up watching ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’.
TV talent shows have become the household faves among the three: ‘The X Factor’, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘The Voice’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity’.
