The Following websites could be very helpful for anyone researching their Family Trees online in preparation for the “Gathering”.
- www.ellisisland.org Free record research for emigrants to US arriving in New York.
- www.nationalarchives.ie Free Irish 1901 and 1911 Census search plus much more.
- www.familysearch.org Latter Day Saints have the largest Database of Births, Marriages and Death in the world.
- www.ancestry.com Database for BMD (Births, Marriages and Deaths) with US Census up to 1940, also UK Census/BMD. You can do free searches but you get broader searches if you pay a yearly subscription or buy credits.
- www.leitrim-roscommon.com and www.failteromath.com Various free records research.
- www.rootsireland.ie Ireland’s Largest Family Records Database.
- www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Scottish records.
- www.cwgc.org Common Wealth War Graves Commission has casualties from WW1 and WW11.
- www.shrule.com Has a genealogy research for that area of Mayo.
- www.1901censusonline.com and www.ukcensusonline.com For UK research.
- www.augustinians.ie/galway Have records for those buried in Forthill Cemetery, Galway.
- www.landedestates.nuigalway.ie Shows records for various Landed Estates in Galway.
These are just a few genealogy websites that are available. Anyone needing professional help with their research can get help for a fee at the (East Galway) Family History Centre in Woodford, County Galway, for (Galway West including the City) Family History at the Shantalla Community Centre.
Galway County Library has 1901 and 1911 Census for Galway plus old Galway newspapers on micro fiche – all you have to do is phone them (00 353 91 561666) to book a place.
