After the Christmas holidays and all that time spent on the couch, Power Soccer has the
tonic for all that inactivity in front of the television. Power Soccer School of Excellence
has just launched its winter brochure.
Power Soccer has been providing quality soccer coaching in Galway City and County
for youth players since 2000. John Power heads the school of excellence in Ireland.
Power Soccer is the brainchild of Liam Power a native of Renmore who emigrated to
Canada in 1988. He set up Power soccer in 1996 to meet the demand for quality
coaching in Toronto. Liam’s brother John joined Power Soccer in 1998 and brought the
idea home to Ireland in 2000.
The idea or philosophy is simple ‘Learn skills, have fun and be active in a positive
environment’. Skilled, motivated and experienced coaches deliver the message of Skill,
Fun and Activity! They hold qualifications with FAI (Football Association of Ireland,
SFA (Scottish Football Association) and SAQ (Speed Agility & Quickness). The coaches
also bring a wealth of experience from academies in Australia, Canada and indeed from
camps in Ireland.
Power Soccer delivers a comprehensive programme for players in Claregalway
Community Centre on a Thursday and in Renmore Community Centre on a Monday.
The school maintains a low coach to pupil ratio to ensure the best standards of
coaching. The “all ball” approach encourages the player to develop confidence on the
ball. Fundamental soccer and movement skills are covered to develop an all-round
player with an ability to use both sides of their body and different parts of their body to
control the ball.
A player leaving Power Soccer will have the confidence to play with the tools (skills)
necessary to play at a high level. It would be great to see Galway United return to the
Premiership with local talent encouraging more supporters to attend. The next Roy
Keane may just be living in Connemara!
