The first Galway County Titles of the 2010 season were decided recently in the Scor na nOg County Finals.

The excellent exhibition of music, song and dance was held in Mountbellew Community Hall despite the extremely cold and frosty conditions.  The keen competition on stage and the wealth of talent on show, however, was enough to banish all thoughts of the inclement conditions.  The only disappointing aspect of this year’s Scor na nOg was that only seven clubs were represented.

Eight county titles were decided with the Scor strongholds holding out from strong competition in most categories.  New entrants Baile Chlair and Bothar na Tra-Cnoc na Cathrach had successful outings with Deirdre Ni Bhraonain, Claregalway winning the Solo Singing and the seasiders taking the quiz title.

Naomh Breandan, Ballygar also regained the County Title in the Rince Foirne.  The strong tradition of Scor continues in some clubs and holding on to their County titles from last year were An Creagan-Maigh Locha for Novelty Act, Cora Finne for Instrumental Music, Maria Regan,Cealtrach for Recitation, Mainistir Chnoc Muaidhe for Set Dancing, Cealtrach for Ballad Group.Galway won four Scor na nOg Connacht Titles in 2009 and will hope to compete strongly again this year.

All entrants were highly commended on their efforts in this year’s Scor na nOg Finals which will be held in Banada, Co. Sligo on Saturday, January 23rd.
