The first night of training for Claregalway Handball Club took place last Sunday 14th November. The training is open to all kids 9 years and up, who are or were pupils of Claregalway, Carnmore and Bawnmore National Schools.

On the first day of training over 50 children from 9-14 turned up and enjoyed the hour long sessions. The training took place in the indoor court in Carnmore Community Centre.

This week training has been split to this evening Friday and on Sunday. It is hoped to enter some players into competitions next year. At the moment Mike Cullina, Joe O’Connell and Johnny Moran make up the coaching team. This team will be added to over the next few weeks. The club have applied for an official training course for the coaching team which is run by the Irish Handball Association branch of the GAA.

The Claregalway Handball Club officers are Chairman Fergus Madden, Secretary Tom Lenihan, Treasurer Seamus O’Connell, Player Officer Mike Cullina.

As the club finds it’s feet again, there may be adult and U-21 teams training and competitions. Also in the pipeline is a parish league.
