Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has announced this morning that a new Claregalway second level school will go ahead in a priority list of new schools issued by the Dept of Education. The new schools, including the Claregalway secondary school are to be built over the next six years.

In welcoming the announcement; Senator Healy Eames paid tribute to the trojan work done by Committee members, led by Mr Paddy Tobin, and the long standing commitment of the parents of the area.

“This is the fruition of a long campaign and is a testament to the community in Claregalway. The Department have identified Claregalway as a growing area and have responded to the need for a secondary school there. The school comittee, which held numerous and well attended public meetings over the years must be congratulated. In addition, the future patron of the school, Galway VEC, will be part of an exciting project ”

“This an fantastic development for the area, the parents and most importantly the young people of Claregalway. It will be great addition to the area.”

The Department of Education list of new schools, does not include existing schools that have been prioritised for improvement works, extension etc.
