Why would anyone dread retirement when it opens up a New World of opportunity for adventure and freedom. An Active Retirement Group is the way to go!

Claregalway Active Retirement Group is only in its infancy and yet it has opened our minds to a whole new way of life, that of socialibility, friendship, camaraderie and activity.

Of course without a hard working imaginative Committee nothing would happen. Already we have enjoyed some very interesting talks. The Big Buzz word now is: ‘MOVEMENT’. We have been introduced to many different forms of exercise over the months with the aim of challenging our body to attempt movements that we thought we had lost!

Variety is the spice of life so on Wednesday 15th November we visited Dáil Éireann. A group of us set off from Claregalway on Callinan Coaches which was provided free of charge. Sincere thanks to Tommy, Dermot and driver John for this generous donation. Monies were collected on the bus and will be given to Galway Hospice as suggested by Callinan Coaches.

The atmosphere on the bus was like a group of children setting off on their school tour! Lots of laughter and banter with unity of purpose to have a very enjoyable day out together. Bridie even brought the bag of sweets! It was like a departure to another world – so positive, fun filled, togetherness, interesting and entertaining. We are now connoisseurs of ‘Leaders Questions’ and the part the Seanad plays in the function of government.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the Dail private dining room together with all the trimmings. Our final rendezvous was in the Dail Bar with liquid refreshments where we met our Galway representatives. Lots of photo opportunities and time to absorb the sense of occasion.

It was a perfect day. 100 percent to Deputy Noel Grealish for his welcome, his warmth, his generosity and all inclusive approach. Sincerest thanks to Eoghan the transition student being mentored by Noel. A huge thank you to the Committee and especially to Josette for organising the Dail visit.

We will continue to work towards our goals and dreams.
