Galway West Fianna Fáil TD Frank Fahey has said he’s confident that approval will soon be granted for the long-awaited new secondary school in Claregalway.

Deputy Fahey met the Tánaiste and Minister for Education & Skills Mary Coughlan and her officials today (Friday 10th of December) to discuss the urgent need for a new post-primary school to meet the growing demand in the greater Claregalway, Athenry and Oranmore areas.

Commenting after the meeting, Deputy Fahey said,

“I received a positive response from the Tánaiste about the need to recognise Claregalway as a location for a new school. As a result I expect to see a positive decision on the proposal within weeks.

I have been working with a local group committed to ensuring that this area is made a priority in the school building programme. Originally, the Department of Education predicted the school would be needed in 2016, but I believe the area can’t afford to wait that long. I am delighted that the Tánaiste has taken this issue on board and I hope to get the final word soon.”
