Claregalway Wastewater Treatment Plant Opens
Irish Water confirms that Lakeview Estate will be connected in the coming weeks
“The new wastewater treatment plant at Claregalway has opened as part of a €5.6 million investment alongside a treatment plant at Milltown.
“The new treatment plant for Claregalway is a significant investment as up until now the locality was not served by a public system but by individual treatment systems and septic tanks.
“Several kilometres of pipe work have been laid in the area as part of the network for the new treatment plant. The modern facility is essential and will greatly improve the water quality in the Clare River which flows into Lough Corrib – the source of most of the drinking water for Galway.
“Furthermore, the completion of the new treatment plant ensures that Claregalway can accommodate new developments and infrastructure.
“As part of the project to construct the new plants four new pumping stations were built along with the upgrade of three existing pumping stations and the connection of housing estates to the new collection system.
“Following representations made on behalf of local residents of one housing estate – Lakeview – by Councillor Peter Feeney and I Irish Water has confirmed that work will be carried out in the coming weeks to connect the estate to the new network near the pumping station at An Mhainstir.
