GALWAY-owned restaurant giant Supermac’s recorded a pre-tax profit of more than €15.9 million in 2016,according to new accounts filed with Companies Registration Office.

The after-tax profit was €13.3m (up from around €11.5m in 2015).  Pre-tax profits in 2015 were recorded at just over €14m.

Supermac’s (Holdings) Ltd, which is owned by Pat and Una McDonagh, recorded revenues of €136.8m last year, up from €116.1m the previous year.

The Company had retained earnings of €85.5m.

The accounts also show that the company has a total of 1,533 staff in 2016 – including 86 in management and administration – up from 1,336 the previous year.

The wage bill for the year was more than €32.1m, up from around €27.2m in 2015.

Last month, the chain opened a new outlet in Headford, its 108th in the country, and continues to have “aggressive expansion plans”.

The McDonaghs appeared at No 61 in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List, with an estimated wealth of €196m.
