Claregalway Junior A’s scored a hard earned but deserved victory over Mountbellew/Moylough in the second round of the Division 3A North League at Mountbellew on Saturday evening on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-11.Claregalway opened brightly with a goal by wing back Colm O Hagan who stole his way into the Mounbellew box to finish a high cross. Michael Nonnan quickly followed up with a point followed by a Dave Hansberry point. Mountbellew clawed their way back and there was just a single point between the teams at half time. Claregalway started the second half with real determination. Substitute Eoin Commins pointed immediately after his introduction with Dave Hansberry adding an excellant point before Sean Moran and Conor Glynn clipped over excellant points. The remainder of the game was competitive and physical with Conor Glynn, Dave Hansberry and Eoin Commins all contributing hard won scores to stem the Mountbellew pressure. Kenneth Hansberry weighed in with the score of the match, a point from from 50 metres, to conclude Claregalway’s account. Mountbellew fought hard to the end but this young and energetic Claregalway lot held out to reverse the result of last year’s North Junior A League final in a tense and physically demanding last quarter.
