Foróige youth clubs are groups of teenagers aged between 12–16, which are designed to keep young people active and off the streets, by providing them with fun activities to pass the time. Youth club programmes include recreational activities that give young people experience of organising their own activities which will benefit them in their future. One can learn a new skill like planning trips away and organising charity events such as baking and walks. You are also able to relax and listen to music or play soccer, table-tennis or basketball and much more.
Our local youth club includes a great variety of activities which suit everyone. These activities include learning about self-defence, Irish dancing and how to do your make up. Professionals on these different issues come in to talk to the members about these topics. This educated the members and creates potential interest on either of the activities. We also go on trips, to places such as Killary, organise Table Quizzes, Discos and Ice-Skating. This results in friendship amongst all of the members. The members make new friends and also build up their confidence as there is great enthusiastic atmosphere in the club.
A youth committee is created which consists of a club chairperson, secretary, treasurer and a public relations officer. They are responsible for planning club meetings and ensuring that the day-to-day management of the club is being carried out. One must also be responsible for carrying out the shop which provides nourishing snacks.
Everyone is welcome to our youth club in Claregalway which is held in the Claregalway Community Centre at 8:30–10pm every Friday, with the cost of €3 per week and also a registration fee. I would recommend our youth club in Claregalway as it creates great friendship and widens your knowledge on activities that are dealt with in the club.
