Prominent family history expect Sr de Lourdes Fahy, MA, of the Mercy Order in Gort is the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Western Family History Association to be held in the Lackagh Parish Centre, Turloughmore this Wednesday September 11th at 8.15pm.

As the Year of the Gathering progresses into autumn, how and where to look for one’s family history continues to be the foremost topic amongst those searching the archives for their roots, community members and friends and returning emigrants alike.  As a consequence, the chosen subject for this meeting Genealogy Made Easy, is the perfect fit for this meeting.

Sr. de Lourdes is a graduate of UCG and is a well known member of Ireland Reaching Out, genealogy expert, historian, museum curator and author of a number of publications on the History of the Parish of Kiltartan. In recognition of her work, she was recently the Guest of Honour at a function held in the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort, organised by Ireland Reaching Out and attended by a large assembly of family hisotory enthusiasts and community representatives.

For decades before Ireland Reaching Out was devised, Sr de Lourdes was active in a Gathering of a different kind, namely, the annual Lady Gregory Autumn Gatherig in which academics and students from around the world participated.

Amongst her current research endeavours, she assists emigrants to find their Irish Roots and extends invitations to them to visit Ireland, having already advised them on their expectations before they arrive.  The meeting on September 11th is open to all interested in family history.
