There will be a general public meeting held in the Claregalway Hotel on Thursday next at 7 pm to discuss the proposed flood relief works to be carried out by the OPW (Office of Public Works).

John O’Brien, the local OPW manager will be in attendance with his engineers. They will present the works which are planned, give start dates, and also estimated finish times. After the presentation, there will be a Q&A session during which any issues can be raised and the representatives will be on hand to answer.

The meeting will also be attended by our local TD’s and County Councillors.

The total cost of the works is estimated to be in the region of €12 million and includes:

  • Construction of flood eye at Claregalway Bridge
  • Construction of flood eyes at Crusheen Bridge
  • Road raising and ancillary works at Miontach South and North
  • Channel maintenance and culvert upgrade at Kiniska
  • Fill gap in wall at An Mhainistir housing estate
  • Provide local embankment at old Nine Arches Bridge
