Independent Deputy for Galway West, Noel Grealish has welcomed the news that Galway County Council are to proceed with the appointment of consultants for the Claregalway Inner Relief Road.
‘Following a meeting with Galway County Council last week, I am delighted that consultants are to be appointed immediately and this project is moving to the next stage,’ said Deputy Grealish.
‘Once appointed, these consultants will carry out detailed design and Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) proceedings.’
‘The Department of Transport allocated €250,000 for this stage of the project and once the CPO has been approved, the project can then proceed to tender.’
‘This is excellent news for motorists who face long-tail backs in Claregalway each day and for the residents of Claregalway and the surrounding areas who are very concerned about road safety.’
Deputy Grealish has also lashed out at those commentators who claim that the new M17 motorway would solve the traffic problems in Claregalway.
‘I firmly believe that the problems in Claregalway will not be solved with the new motorway,’ he said.
‘Commuters on the N17 are not going to travel up to Athenry to go into Galway each day and it’s time that everyone supports the Claregalway Inner Relief Road and work together to get it delivered as soon as possible, Deputy Grealish concluded.
