Oranmore Train Station To Stay On Track In New Capital Programme – Healy Eames

Galway West Senator Fidelma Healy Eames has welcomed news that the funding will continue to be provided for Oranmore Train Station in the Government’s Infrastructure and Capital Investment Plan 2012-16 despite reduced capital funding nationally.

“The continued funding of a train station in Oranmore will provide a vital and major boost for the locality and will most especially help to alleviate traffic east of Galway City. In addition, it will provide an economic boost for the area by attracting additional visitors to the locality, with increased connectivity and accessibility benefiting businesses in Oranmore”

“I will be using the new train station on a weekly basis myself”

“I’m delighted that the Government has committed itself to continue to fund a train station for Oranmore and I know the facility will provide an attractive and viable alternative for commuters in the Oranmore area,”

“With up to an estimated 65,000 vehicles travelling the N6, R339 and the Oranmore Coast Road to Galway city every day, providing a viable alternative to these motorists will obviously have a positive effect on traffic congestion coming from the Oranmore side of the county. I expect that it will prove to be value for money in a short period of time.”

“I look forward to seeing this project being progressed and the benefits of having a train station in Oranmore coming to fruition.”
