Students from the MSc Marketing Practice to the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at NUI Galway have taken on the challenge of securing one million registrations in just one week to launch new social media platform, SpeakTalkChat and put NUI Galway on the global social media map, just as Facebook did for Harvard University.

SpeakTalkChat is an online, social media and video chatting platform. It allows chatters to connect with like-minded people around the world and video chat about their shared interests. An example included: people who have an interest in learning French can select a fellow chatter from France and agree a time to chat and get learning.

Aidan Duggan, Founder and CEO of SpeakTalkChat.com believes video chatting through social media is the future. Currently in start-up development phase, the Galway based social media entrepreneur will travel to Silicon Valley in October to seek venture capital investment. He said, “I’m delighted to be working with the students, they have great ideas for raising awareness to secure on million registrations. This is a great opportunity for Galway. Once we secure investment it will allow us to bring it to the next stage. We expect to create 350 jobs in Galway based on our five year projections. Right now, we need people to get behind it.”

Sarah Burke, NUIG, Msc Marketing Practice student said “We are asking the people of Galway and beyond to get behind us, go online to register today.”
