It’s February, which means spring has officially begun! The daffodils are starting to pop their heads up and we’re starting to see a little bit of a stretch in the evenings. We’re very grateful for this extra ray of sunshine as it means we get to spend it in the best way, outdoors! There’s so much to do in the garden in February – our feathered friends are depending on us for feeding, our lawns need looking after and we begin to plant our crops for the year ahead. It really is a month for renewal and regrowth!

Getting out into the garden and getting your hands dirty has many benefits. Once you begin sowing, growing and harvesting your own fruits, herbs and vegetables you will begin to see bountiful improvements in numerous areas of your life. Who ever said you can’t have your cake garden and eat it too?

February’s plant of the month is the Crinodendron Hookerianum, also know as the Chilean Lantern Tree. Some of the attributes that make it an ideal plant for you garden include:

– It is an incredibly eye-catching, colourful plant

The age old question…when does spring really begin? If you’re a meteorologist, spring begins on 1st March. If you’re an astronomer, spring begins on the 20th March. But, for us gardeners, spring begins on the 1st February.

There can be quite a lot to do in February. You have 28 days to look after your wild birds, sow and grow your plants, fruit and vegetables and tackle your garden moss.
