It was a very busy weekend for the Claregalway Ladies Club. On Saturday both U-12 Teams played their Finals in Clonberne. The A Team overcame Annaghdown to capture the A Championship Shield while the B Team lost out to a very good Caltra Cuans outfit in the Div 4 Cup Final. It was a great achievement for this young Team to reach their Cup Final. A big thanks to  Ray,PJ, Breda and Eillis for all their work with this group during the Season. The U-14’s were in Salthill on Saturday evening for  their Cup semi-final and put in an impressive display to defeat the home team on a score of 6-12 to 3-10.  They play Monivea in the Final on the weekend of 13/14th with the U-14 B Team taking on Spiddal the same weekend in the Div 5 Cup. The Club  U-8’s hosted Oranmore for a very successful Blitz on Saturday afternoon. It was great to see so many young footballers enjoying our wonderful sport. Thanks to Gordan and all the Oranmore coaches, mentors and especially every girl that took part.  On Sunday  the Adult ladies had no luck in their Championship semi-finals. The Juniors put in a strong effort against a Division 2 side Leitir Mor in the Junior A semi-final but the concession of two injury time goals left Claregalway trailing at halftime by 4-1 to 0-7. This young team matched their opponents in the second half but were unable to close the gap and lost out on a Final score of 6-6 to 1-8.  In their first year up in Junior A it was a great achievement to reach a County semi-final and the future is bright for  this Team. The Seniors took on holders Kilkerrin\Clonberne in their semi-final. The Claregalway Girls set the pace for much of the opening half and led for most of it but the concession of frees before the break left them  trailing by 0-6 to 0-4 at halftime. Claregalway continued their good form into the second half and when Deirdre Brennan found the Clonberne net the sides were level 1-5 to 0-8 with 15 minutes to play. But from then on the greater experience and fitness of the 5 times County Champions told as  they hit 2 goals and ran out 2-14 to 1-6 winners, a scoreline that doesn’t do justice to the gallant efforts of the Claregalway Girls.  This brings a disappointing end to another season in the Senior ranks for  Claregalway. Maybe 2019 with renewed effort and better luck on the injury front might see this team reach it potential.

As you may be aware the Claregalway & District Day Care Centre are currently in the process of building a new facility in the village. The Centre are currently running a fundraising draw with two brand new cars as well as other major prizes up for grabs.  The club will make tickets available at the clubhouse in Knockdoe on Saturday evening at ladies training session and on Sunday morning at juvenile training.  Please support this community initiative by buying or sharing in the purchase of a ticket for the draw.
