At a time when communities are doing all they can to encourage greater health for all their members, Carnmore hurling and camogie clubs is doing its best to encourage people to get off the couch this winter and stay fit.

The clubs, two of the most progressive in the county, and over the past decade have been developing their substantial facilities to benefit the entire community.

Three years ago, they fundraised to construct a state of the art Astro pitch which enables year round training for its teams. Now they are just about to complete work on a community walkway, which surrounds their four pitches (three grass and Astro).

The benefits of having a community walkway at the pitches enables those parents dropping off players to the facility to stay and enjoy it while training goes on. No longer have those dropping off players to go elsewhere for a walk, but they can stay and enjoy a safe and substantial fully-lit walk, without incurring the double fuel costs of two unnecessarary journeys.

In addition, the club is installing ducting and poles for state of the art floodlighting for their third pitch, thereby creating even more facilities for the community to enjoy.

To fund these developments, Carnmore hurling and camogie clubs is staging another LipSync night to be held in the Clayton Hotel Galway this Saturday night October 22. In this, members of the club and community will take to te stage to mime and act out a popular tune.

The acts have been put through their paces by the talented producer and choreographer Caroline Cawley over the past five weeks.

In 2019, tickets for the Carnmore LipSync were sold out well in advance of the night, and tickets are flying again this year. Reviews of that show stated it was one of the best club nights seen in the community and organisers of this year’s extravaganza are hoping for a similar success.

The club is asking the community to join in what will be a fun night and support this venture at the same time.

Tickets for the show are available from Glynn’s Centra, Carnmore, Hughes SuperValu, Claregalway, Lyons Mace, Carnmore and online from Carnmore hurling at Clubforce.
