Senior Hurling Championship 2014
Carnmore v Portumna
Sunday 25th May 2014 at 7pm
in Kenny Park, Athenry
Carnmore Senior Hurlers met reigning All-Ireland Champions, Portumna in the first of their group games of Round 3 of the 2014 championship campaign. Carnmore did not shy away from Portumna, a team with incredible skill, work-rate and movement, and had put up a score of 2–6 to Portumna’s 1–11 at half time.
Carnmore worked hard in the second half, with points from George Hanley, Kevin Killilea and Barry Hanley, to keep their side honest, however with the score at 1–21 to 2–12 at the end of the third quarter, the result had all but slipped away. Portumna, although conceded no less than fifteen frees to Carnmore’s seven, were the winners of this match. Only for Carnmore’s goalkeeper, Ciaran Fahy, there may have been a much larger gap in the result.
Carnmore Hurling Club have been awarded the privilege of hosting this year’s Hurling Féile. It will take place on Saturday 14th June with first match due to commence at 11.30am and last match at 1.30pm. The participating teams are Galway (Turloughmore), Tipperary (Jk Brackens), Offaly (Shinrone), Limerick (Na Piarsaigh).
Any club member who is available and willing to help with stewarding and catering on the morning of the 14th, should give their name to Síle Fox 085 7044105.
Best of luck to the U14 girls of Carnmore Camogie Club who are participating in the Camogie Féile on the same day in Dangan NUIG Grounds.
Community Games Ryan Fox of the U12 Carnmore Hurling Squad took part in the Community Games Puc Fada in Ballindereen on Monday last 2nd June. His super puck out earned him the gold County Medal. He is now through to the National Finals, scheduled to be held in Athlone in August. Well done Ryan and best of luck in August.
Clean Up 2014
Carnmore Hurling Club are having a general clean up of our three pitches and their surrounds, on Saturday June 7th. All members are asked, that if at all possible, could you give some of your time to this initiative. Even an hour would be greatly appreciated. Please bring along any equipment that may be useful eg. strimmers, hoes, rakes, etc.
We will be starting at 9am until the job is done! Some of our ladies have agreed to keep the kettle boiling for that well earned cuppa! Many hands make light work!
