Request for a Library for Claregalway
In the last issue of Nuacht Chláir I said that I was waiting for a report from Galway County Council from the December meeting on their plans for a Library for Claregalway.
On December 19th a report was presented to the councillors outlining the Library in relation to Claregalway. The report states as follows:
“The proposal to provide a new library in Claregalway is influenced by the
rapidly growing population and the amount of development in the area.”
Action Step: To identify a suitable site for the proposed library, and to prepare an application for approval-inprinciple to be submitted to An Chomhairle Leabharlanna.
In reply to questions raised by me I was told that there was no time frame and that the council
have to acquire a suitable site.

Claregalway By-Pass
In early December I wrote to the Minister for Transport Mr. Martin Cullen asking him to take
an active interest in the provision of the Claregalway-By-Pass. I have since received an
acknowledgement from the Minister’s Private Secretary and a further reply will be issued as
soon as possible.

Claregalway Sewerage Scheme
In the draft Galway County Budget for 2006 provision has been made for the work to start on
the Claregalway Sewerage Scheme in 2006 at a cost of 3.3 million euro. I have since been
informed that this start date is now more likely to be 2007 with additional funding provided.

Road Conditions at Cloonbiggeen
The worsening condition of this road has been brought to the notice of theCounty Council.
Over the past few months this road has been used by heavy lorries and as a result the sides of
the roadway are being torn up as are the fences along the road.
